Comparison of Fiberscopic Findings with Post-operative Diagnosis on Gastric Diseases

Abstract
|
|
|
Comparison of gastrofiberscopic examination with post-operative findings was studied on 90 cases of stomach diseases including 30 cases of peptic ulcer and 60 cases of cancer and the results obtained could be summarized as follows.
Rate of misdiagnosis by endoscopy was 13.3% in benign ulcer and 15.0% in cancer, while that of x-ray ryas 17.9% in both pathologies.
Small ulcers less than lcm in diameter were observed in 26.7% of benign ulcers and 2.2 0 of malignant: ulcers, while large ulcers over than 5crri in diameter occupied 10% of benign ulcers and 57.8% of malignant ulcers.
About 50% of benign ulcers located in middle third of the stomach while 56.7% of gastric cancers in the lower third.
Concerning the type of cancer, Borrmann type II and II[ were prevalent and occupied 75% of cancer cses.
